How have you found the balance of passive and active learning in this course for your learning? How does it compare to your experience in other courses?
I’ve noticed that this course offers a notably different experience compared to others I’ve taken. While I’ve enrolled in several online courses previously, I’ve found that this one provides the most interactive learning environment, which came as a pleasant surprise to me. In many cases, online courses can lack the motivation I find in traditional settings due to the absence of effective communication, face-to-face interaction, and connection with classmates. These factors are often considered the main drawbacks of online learning. However, this course stands out from the rest in that regard. I’ve found myself more engaged with the course materials, including literature, videos, and unique experiences such as creating stories using Twine and incorporating my own questions into videos using H5P. This enhanced level of interaction has truly enriched my learning experience and made me feel more connected to the content and the learning community.
What was your experience of trying out H5P? Which of the activities do you think you would make most use of in your teaching context and what would you use them to do? Which ones do you think require the most resources to create?
H5P has truly broadened my horizons and introduced me to new forms of interaction. Initially, I had little background knowledge about H5P. However, through this week’s literature and hands-on practice, I have gained a deeper understanding of its capabilities. H5P offers a wide range of features aimed at enhancing learning experiences, and some of these features have left a strong impression on me.
One feature is the Text and Multiple Choice options. Incorporating these functions has not only increased learning efficiency but has also provided learners with opportunities for timely review. However, I’ve found that creating multiple choice questions requires considerable effort. As a creator, I need to search for alternative answers to include in the question meticulously. This process has encouraged me to seek out additional resources and has challenged me to approach problems from different perspectives. Overall, exploring H5P has been an enlightening experience, pushing me to think creatively and engage with learning content in innovative ways.

Hi Rick,
Great blog post! I completely agree with your perspective on passive and active learning in regard to online courses. I too have found that this course has really allowed me to apply my knowledge while learning concepts that are applicable to various aspects of my life. I also enjoyed your point about multiple choice questions activities and the amount of resources required to create them. It is interesting how we never put much thought into these seemingly simply activities, until we are tasked to do them ourselves!

I agree with your views on passive and active learning in this courses. I can’t establish a connection between me and my classmates and teachers in the online course I have experienced before. I can’t find the motivation to learn, but in this course, there are many novel things. For example, Twine, HP5, AI tools. These interactions enhance my learning experience and allow me to integrate into this course.

I completely resonate with your insights regarding the dynamics of passive versus active learning within educational courses. I’ve personally encountered challenges establishing meaningful connections with both classmates and instructors in previous online learning environments, leading to a sense of disconnection and a lack of motivation to fully engage in the learning process. overall, you are doing a good job in this blog.
